Who We Are?
In a world where political polarization and media distrust are at an all-time high, Ground News offers people a better way to stay informed and open-minded. Our mobile app, web app, and browser extension are home to a community of mindful newsreaders who use our news comparison platform to easily see every side of a story and engage with news beyond their filter bubble.
Unlike most news companies, our audience and our values do not align with any specific political ideology. Unlike most tech platforms, we don’t use manipulative algorithms to keep users on our platform to sell more ads.
We are supported by our readers who pay for a subscription to build a more nuanced understanding of the news, the world, and themselves.
The Opportunity - Social Video Creative (Remote - USA)
Do you have nuanced opinions about politics? The go-to person in your friend group when someone wants to understand the latest big news story? Then this role is for you.
We are looking for someone who has proven themselves in the social video space and wants to use their skills to create a more informed and empathetic world. As our first social video creative, you’ll be the driving force (and face) behind our social video strategy and presence on video-first social media platforms. You’ll primarily focus on short-form video content on TikTok/Shorts/IG, with the opportunity to experiment with long-form content on Youtube.
You won’t be starting from scratch. We already have a brand that is known and trusted on social media by a large community of engaged newsreaders from across the world and political spectrum. Our instagram account alone reaches 1M+ unique accounts monthly and is one of the most trusted news pages on the platform. Our next evolution is one that you’ll help forge - becoming a revered brand on social video.
The right candidate will play the leading role in establishing ourselves as a trusted and loved news brand on video-first social media platforms and leave their fingerprint on Ground News for years to come.
What You’ll Do:
Lead: Develop and execute social video strategies, in both short—and long-form formats, on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Collaborate: Work with the head of growth and other members of the marketing team on social video projects.
Produce: You’ll create engaging and on brand pieces of social video content end to end, including brainstorming, storyboarding, scripting, filming, producing and editing.
Analyze: Analyze previous videos and competitor channels to identify areas for improvement.
Manage: You’ll completely manage our already engaged community on video-first platforms.
What You’ll Have:
A minimum of 3 years of experience with social first video production, scripting, and editing.
A track record of defining, evangelizing and implementing social video strategies at a platform level, inclusive of evergreen content and more reactive, trend based pieces.
A genuine interest and deep familiarity with the US political and media landscape.
Deep understanding of internet culture and social media trends, especially as it relates to politics.
To be comfortable and experienced with being on both sides of the camera. Some videos may require anchor-style commentary on news stories.
The ability to distill complex cultural and political moments into insightful original content
An opportunistic mindset and proven creative talent. News stories break and fade quickly, so you’ll need to feel comfortable in working on a tight timeline.
The ability to leave your personal politics at the door and create content that builds trust with our idealogically diverse audience.
What You Might Have:
Product marketing experience
Have experience working in politics or for a political advocacy group
Have managed and/or scaled large social media channels with 50K+ followers, preferably with video content. A background as a video-first creator is a huge plus!
